Former CNN correspondent to discuss freedom of speech with St. John’s students

IMG_0151The High School assembly this Friday, January 16, will be dedicated to “freedom of speech”, a topic chosen by the 12th grade students in charge of organizing this assembly. The guest speaker will be Patricia Kelly, who was CNN’s bureau chief in Brussels and its senior international correspondent for 12 years. The assembly takes place in the theater from 11:30-12:20 and is open to St. John’s parents.

With a background in print and broadcast news gathering, production and management, Patricia Kelly was previously a foreign correspondent for the British Daily Express and the Daily Telegraph. She has contributed to numerous national newspaper and magazine titles in the U.K., including The Financial Times and The Economist. One of the pioneers of 24-hour television news reporting, she was CNN’s bureau chief in Brussels, a CNN senior international correspondent for 12 years and the network’s primary correspondent for Europe. She led news teams to war zones in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo and peace talks in Serbia and Geneva. Often called upon as a conference moderator and media trainer, she has extensive commissioning and editing experience and is now involved in publishing magazines, apps and websites for corporate clients.

We thank Patricia for sharing her expertise and experience on the topic of freedom of speech with our students.
