St. John’s hosts prestigious international math competition

ismtflogoFrom January 31 to February 2, St. John’s is proud to host the prestigious ISMTF International Senior Mathematics School Competition. Over 180 of the best students in mathematics from 36 international schools from Europe, Africa and Middle East will visit our school for 3 days to enjoy mathematics and compete for the best results. The students will be hosted by St. John’s families during their stay in Belgium.

The students and their coaches will arrive at St. John’s on Friday, January 31 and students will attend workshops by leading educational technology expert, Douglas Butler. The actual competition, as well as teacher workshops by Mr. Butler, takes place on Saturday, February 1, with a technology event and the awards ceremony planned for Sunday, February 2.

St. John’s has a rich history in mathematics and competition success. It is the only school in Belgium and one of very few schools worldwide to offer the Further Math course, a Higher Level course of the International Baccalaureate Diploma program. This highly challenging course is open to the most motivated and able students who will likely eventually apply for studies in Mathematics or research in Pure Sciences at University. Former St. John’s students who followed the Further Math course have attended prestigious universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, M.I.T. and Stanford.
